We hope you’re well and would still like to engage with efforts to decriminalize entheogenic plants and fungi. When we started this journey, our goal was to be an advocate for decriminalization and to educate on the history, progress, and promise of plant medicine for mental and physical health.
In September 2021, we testified before the Grand Rapids City Commission and the Mayor on our group’s purpose and goals. We held several community educational events and met regularly with the Michigan and the National Decriminalize Nature chapters to review progress and develop next steps. We saw our efforts as successful when the City Commission published the following:
"The Mayor and City Commission hereby support local, state and federal legislative efforts to decriminalize Entheogenic Plants and Fungi and plant-based compounds that are listed on the Federal Controlled Substances Schedule.”
Since then, the Mayor and nearly the entire Commission have turned over, presenting us with an opportunity to educate a new fleet of city leaders. We’d like to continue to build momentum through community engagement, educational outreach, and advocating for sensible policy changes with residents of Grand Rapids, as well as those of neighboring municipalities. We plan to stay in touch with Michigan Psychedelic Society, to work on statewide decriminalization. Our core values continue to focus on maximizing equity, promoting health, and ensuring freedom of choice for all in healing methods and in worship ceremonies with these sacred plants.
If you’d like to be involved or stay informed of our work, please let us know by responding to this decrimnaturegr@gmail.com. To stay informed on entheogens and on our progress, see our website: www.decrimnaturegr.org.
Thanks,
Decrim Nature GR Team
